Hazel Foster is from Chesterfield, Michigan, which is in the Metro-Detroit area, and graduated from Anchor Bay High School in 2012. After High School, unlike most people, she did not know what she wanted to do. Without a direct path in mind she decided to attend Macomb Community College. After taking a course in both nutrition and marketing, being on the fence between either the business field or the health field, marketing seemed to be a much more exciting route. A year of community college under her belt, and wanting to get out of her comfort zone, she decided to attend NMU without even touring the school, or knowing anyone there. The only glimpse of Marquette she had was going through the roundabout on highway 41 looking at the lake, on the way to take her brother to Michigan Tech.
Not long after moving into her dorm, she started getting involved with “house” and “hall” government, and joined the sailing team, where she held the positions of Secretary, Vice Commodore, and Commodore throughout her four years at NMU. She also worked on the campus Starbucks for two and a half years, one of which as a shift supervisor. Hazel was a student in NMU’s Walker L. Cisler College of Business and graduated in May 2017 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Marketing.
Hazel is a student member of 40 Below and jumped in right away, joining the communications committee. She is hoping the club can provide her with the right connections and opportunities to jump start her “real world” job. She would love to start her professional career in Marquette in fields such as marketing, advertising, or anything related. She is open to almost any challenge! In her free time, Hazel loves to get on the water and sail whenever possible, usually on her dad’s catamaran. Aboard Double Time, in St. Clair Shores, she has completed many competitive races such as the Port Huron to Mackinac, Chicago to Mackinac, and even the Super-Mac which is Chicago to Port Huron. Off the water, Hazel loves to be with her friends, family, and boyfriend, which often entails a glass (or two) of wine or a trip to Blackrocks or Ore Dock. She loves a good hockey game and is a die hard fan of the Detroit Red Wings and a die hard hater of the Chicago Blackhawks. Hazel also loves crafting, singing along to Billy Joel, and other classics on road trips, and a good episode of Mad Men.
